In 2013 I was lucky enough to be able to visit Kathmandu in order to work with a troupe of circus performers there, Circus Kathmandu. It was part of a programme of volunteer trainers and circus professionals travelling to Nepal to input into the performance training of 13 young people. They had been rescued from having been trafficked into Indian circus at a very young age.
I was only able to go for three weeks which was far too short. I was blown away by the warmth and resilience of the performers and we had a great time playing with their on stage personas and freeing up their circus physicalities. I would love to go back. I couldn’t recommend the experience highly enough to someone who has skills they could offer to enhance the training programme.
