White Oak Rig 2008

treeThis was an odd commission in that I was asked to design an aerial rig that looked like a tree, I decided the tree would be dead and added a tree house element to create stage areas for the performers.  I really enjoyed researching cantelevers, to enable the aerial rigging to be away from the ‘trunk’.  The odd bit was never meeting the men that I got to build it, nor see the show on it, as it was in a theme park in California.  However, The Treehouse Engineering Company did a fantastic job of translating my design into something stable enough.  They sourced an already felled White Oak that was almost exactly the right shape already and they created a sprawling support frame below the stage area, as we could not dig far down
